Evelyn Zumaya Has Typo In Her Own Name In her New Book "RV Case Files"

On page 275 of The Rudolph Valentino Case Files Evelyn Zumaya critiqued the book Valentino A Dream Of Desire by author David Bret.

.."a dizzying array of typos which could have been avoided with minimal editing"

In reading her book that sentence Zumaya wrote jumped out at me.  Let's flip the mirror around and see how her book The Rudolph Valentino Case Files stacks up to that type of scrutiny she levied against Bret's book.

In her own name a typo was found!

The Rudolph Valentino Case Files page 251 footnote #6

You only had to go to page #2 to find the first typo.  On page 2 Evelyn Zumaya lists the arrival of Federico Rizza to America.
Page 2 date of arrival is listed as June 1, 1916
Page 3 lists the date of arrival in footnote #3 as June 1, 1915

On Page 48 shows photo of Bobby Ullman and said he appeared
in the motion picture "Lummox" in 1935.  Another typo........  It was actually 1930

On Page 104 Zumaya stated the niche
Valentino was buried in was sold to the family in 1936
Another typo....... it was actually 1933

On Page 70 Evelyn Zumaya reproduces a hand written letter from
Valentino author Norman Mackenzie to George Ullman.
On page 70 he writes  "....the present edition....."
On page 71 Zumaya typed the letter for easier reading; the above quote became
                                      "... the present editor......"

Page 135 and Page 136 shows Evelyn Zumaya mistake Hustler porn publisher Larry Flint as Valentino Guild Founder Leslie Flint.   Both pages 135 and 136 list the porn king's name instead of Leslie Flint's.

On Page 212  Evelyn Zumaya shows a pair of photos of Rudolph Valentino with a raincoat on, stating they were taken at the school of agriculture in Italy.   Actually they were taken in the USA, New Jersey to be exact.

And my last example of turning the mirror around is on page 329 when Zumaya is handing out "thank yous" on her acknowledgment page

Page 329 Typo:  'Thank you' becomes 'Tank-you'

So, I repeat the quote Evelyn Zumaya levied against another Valentino author.

".....a dizzying array of typos which could have been avoided with minimal editing"

This is why I give The Rudolph Valentino Case Files a 'thumbs down'.  In my opinion it is poorly edited, filled with typos and errors.

Rudolph Valentino Case Files: Review #2 Evelyn Zumaya Mis-Identifies Valentino Memorial Guild President as Famed 'Hustler' Porn Publisher

Leslie Flint was the beloved President of the London based Valentino Memorial Guild that was the longest running Valentino Guild in history.  The Valentino world has long lauded Leslie Flint for his activist work in preserving Valentino films.  His biggest legacy was to acquire and preserve the surviving footage of The Young Rajah.  He was also a well known spiritualist and author.  He was a champion of, and attended many times, the Valentino Memorial Service.

Several years ago I was able to acquire the Valentino Memorial Guild's vast files and correspondence.  One entire binder contained the decades of correspondence from Los Angeles Valentino fan Tony Altamirano.

Naturally when I saw Evelyn Zumaya had a chapter called "The Tony Altamirano Contributions"  my interest was piqued.  This is where she mentioned a hear-say conversation between Altamirano and Leslie Flint.  Then, there in the Footnote #11 she mistakenly lists his name as Larry Flint the Porn Mogul!  How in the world could a legit book called The Rudolph Valentino Case Files mistake the identity of the President of the Valentino Memorial Guild as the Pornography King?

It wasn't a typo because she repeats the same error on the very next page, and Footnote #13 again refers to Leslie Flint as Porn King Larry Flint.   It doesn't end there.   Evelyn Zumaya even lists the famed "Filth Peddler" in the books index.

This is yet another example of the absence of research and, needless to say, proof-reading for this book.

Leslie Flint, the beloved Valentino Memorial Guild President deserves better.

Book Review: Rudolph Valentino Case Files (Part 1)

I just finished this book The Rudolph Valentino Case Files last night.  It gives me no pleasure to say that I give this book a 'Thumbs Down'  book review.  I waited to purchase it until Amazon had a steep price reduction and bought it for a fraction of it's original asking price.  After reading, I know why it's on clearance.

I plan to review this book in seperate parts  because unlike the other Valentino books, this is a hodge-podge of essays, newspaper reprints, translations, guesswork theories passed off as research, some appear to be amateur blog posts disguised as additional chapters.  It's finished out with colorized B&W images, ironically many of them have no connection whatsoever to Rudolph Valentino.

Part 1 of my book review

There is a Valentino Book Bibliography List which starts on page 317.  The books are listed alphabetically under the respective author's last name rather than the actual title of the Valentino book.  When I looked for Valentino Dream Of Desire under the name of it's author, David Bret, it was nowhere to be found.  Odd, I thought since Zumaya spent 8 entire pages discussing Valentino Dream Of Desire and even mentioned it's actual title on four occasions within those eight pages.

It's common knowledge Evelyn Zumaya has long attacked his book, but I felt surely she wouldn't censor a title from  the Valentino book bibliography list simply because of that. After all, she equally rallied against the book by Brad Steiger and Chaw Mank in the same chapter she rails on Bret.  She even included additional chapters for them, the authors of Valentino An Intimate And Shocking Expose, called "Mr Mank" and "The Brad Steiger Interview"  Yet, their book Valentino An Intimate And Shocking Expose was indeed included in their Valentino Bibliography yet Bret's appears to be deliberately banished.

For the record; Evelyn Zumaya and Renalto Floris have never been shy about venting their outrage of having their own Valentino books eliminated from a prominent Valentino website's book list.

Yet, they are A-OK with doing it to the books they don't approve of?  This is hypocrisy and they frankly should be called out on doing the very thing they complain about being done to them.

Renato Floris expresses his "utmost disgust" that "none of our books were included"
                                                                Quote dated  6/23/21

Renato Floris says it is "intellectually dishonest" that she "does not include
books which are not to her liking"  Quote dated 10/11/21

So, I ask you - are Evelyn Zumaya and Renato Floris "intellectually dishonest"?  After all, it is he, himself who said a person not including Valentino books not to their liking on their bibliography list  makes them intellectually dishonest.  Yet that is what they have done in The Rudolph Valentino Case Files.  I'll let you decide for yourself.

This is a good example of why, in my opinion, that neither they themselves nor the multiple Valentino books put out by Evelyn Zumaya and Renato Floris will ever be taken seriously nor found in any scholarly book depository.

This is end of my book review Part 1. The discussion of The Rudolph Valentino Case Files will continue in Part 2

Homophobia? What Evelyn Zumaya Doesnt Want You To Know She Did With The Ullman Memoir

***BOMBSHELL ALERT ***

Did Rudolph Valentino think Natacha Rambova was a lesbian?   Yes.  In the S. George Ullman manuscript Ullman wrote of a quick exchange with Rudy telling him Nita Naldi had been seen around New York with Natacha Rambova.   Rudy turns to Ullman and (referring to Naldi) says "Dont tell me she's a lesbian too!"  That means he already thought Rambova was a lesbian.

Sadly, you wont get to read that passage in the book marketed by Viale Industria Publications called "The S. George Ullman Memoir"  Evelyn Zumaya, who wrote the foreward to the book is a fierce opponent to anyone who dares to question Valentino's sexuality. Certainly Rudy calling Rambova a lesbian threw Zumaya a curve ball. In 2009 Zumaya gave a public lecture on Valentino's sexuality and ripped apart two Valentino authors who's viewpoints on his sexuality differed from hers. At the time she received the Ullman manuscript she mistakenly thought she held the only copy, therefore she probably thought that she could quietly censor the lesbian paragraph out and no one would be the wiser.  To me that stands as a true example of homophobia.

To think that Evelyn Zumaya who on her podcasts wailed about censorship of her book and even brought up book burning would, at the same time quietly snip the lesbian paragraph out and thus deliberately extracting a part of George Ullman's Valentino history.  Would S. George Ullman approve of her deed? I would think not. I fully believe he would denounce both Evelyn Zumaya and her self-publisher "husband" Renato Floris.

Affairs Valentino - It's A "Dirty Diaper" Around Her Neck... And It Stinks

These are my own copies of the books.  Photo taken today.  None fell apart.
I ask you - why would I be against others buying the book if I am buying it myself?

However proud she claims she is of the infamous "Forewarning" I would offer the opinion that since it's publication it has continued to haunt her and hang around Evelyn's neck with all the dignity of a smelly, dirty diaper. And it remains there.  It ruined her credibility. Absolutely. She will boast otherwise, of course, but trust me, I speak the truth.    Yet she deliberately thrust this "Forewarning" onto the world. Truth be damned.

Let me be clear -  I have and continue to have NO opposition to her book.  The ONLY thing I ever was opposed to is the Forewarning.    Everyone - including her is fully entitled to have their work out there. As it should be! I don't know a single person who is against the book. None!  The Forewarning? Yes.  The book? No.

Yet Evelyn harped on about it was 'the book they don't want you to read'. That she had death threats and was in hiding because of her bravery to tell this story.  No, No. No. God, will you ever tell the truth, woman?

Again, I was against the "Forewarning"  I have said it over and over, yet Evelyn Zumaya wears the pity-party hat rather proudly albeit foolishly.  She attempts to deceive the web readers with her lies that I wrote negative reviews.  NO, I did not.  And I don't lie.  Evelyn Zumaya would be unable to show you a single thing I personally wrote about the book - outside the Forewarning, because I haven't.  I did, jokingly say the book was pure fiction but I was only referring to the reams of created fictional dialogue she created for the book, not the book itself.  I truly believe it was detrimental to her book.  I do not go against peoples books.  In fact, I purchased both of Evelyn's books - the embarrassing telephone book sized first edition, as well as the newer, 2nd edition.  I also bought the Companion Guide book.   You haven't heard me say a peep negative about any of that. Why would I?

What do I think of Evelyn as a person?   Anyone who would write something like the vile Forewarning isn't a nice person. Not by a long shot. I waited ONE whole year to personally say anything about my Court case. A whole year. The only reason I started to write, after a year is that on this very blog she was hammering away untruths about me and my court case, uncontested.   LET THAT SINK IN ON WHAT SHE WAS DOING - I felt I needed to say what really happened.  Trust me I asked myself then - and now -  WHY was she even involving herself in it? It had nothing to do with her.    Anyways, the night I created and posted the first entry onto "Valentino Wept" saying I would be telling the truth and laying it all out.  On  the very next morning Evelyn Zumaya  saw fit to mock me as being 'oh how maudlin' and Evelyn created another blog called "Valentino Laughed"  the very next day!

Please keep in mind that even earlier she had created a blog called Valentino Speaks where - you guessed it she attacked me by saying things about me that were absolutely not true.

Lastly, lets not forget her Christmas video which she created a venomous hate filled Christmas "rhyme" poem video all about me that she read over a video of the Christmas song It Came Upon A Midnight Clear. She posted that on Youtube.  This, from a woman I have never met, nor spoken a single word to.

Evelyn is a victim?  Oh really? Please tell me why she's created blogs of hate including this very blog, at one point to attack me. She's created videos to attack me.  She put me in the Forewarning of her book as a Valentino Cult Leader who people feared might shoot them in the back of the head at a Valentino screening.  I kid you not it's in the 'Forewarning'.   All this and MORE has poured from the pen of Evelyn Zumaya who  - says she's PROUD of everything she's written.

I'll leave you with that.

Dreadful: A Critique of Jeanne De Requeville's English Translation Book "Rudolph Valentino"

Say what you will, this is just a sad affair all around.  The 'Publisher' who's native tongue is Italian is now translating a book in two languages not in his normal realm. It doesn't even matter.

The original book is about 2/3 fictional dialogue and would be considered an embarrassment to anyone who reads it.  It's no wonder this book is seldom quoted or sourced in ANY book about Rudolph Valentino.  It is awash with errors.

The original version, left and the new reprint, right

Aside from a mountain of errors, let me make clear that this book is pure pablum. You will learn nothing new at all.

Examples of errors that the original author made and the "editor" Evelyn Zumaya, of the new edition didn't catch: (Keep in mind the 'editor's' sole role in this project was to make footnotes to point out errors or clarifications)

On page 25 on the 2nd paragraph the name Jean Acker is spoken.  Yet in the very next paragraph she is noted as "Joan" Acker.    Huh???

On Page 27 Jeanne, when talking about the movie The Married Virgin saying "they glue a monocle on his right eye and draw a thin mustache... he smokes a big cigar which contributes to his characters unpleasant appearance"  In truth in the movie the Married Virgin he uses NO monocle nor does he sport a mustache. In confusion the author is remembering "Isle Of Love'  Yet, Zumaya did not grasp  De Requeville's error nor make any 'footnote' of it. This is quite noteworthy because it exposes Zumaya's lack of Valentino knowledge early on.

Rudy as he appeared throughout in 'The Married Virgin'. Do you see a monocle or mustache?

Rudy in 'Isle of Love'  How much research would it have taken for Evelyn Zumaya to right this wrong in the original edition?

On page 36 Evelyn Zumaya continues to misspell the street name of his home in Whitley Heights. I called her out on this some time ago, so you'd think it would be on her radar, but no.  Wedgewood is still misspelled as "Wedgwood"  This is the simplest of fixes.  This is noteworthy of how 'scholarly' this woman is.  She is NOT.

On page 48 The original author has Rudy filming Beyond The Rocks after the Rambova wedding, yet truth be told, Beyond The Rocks was released on May 7 and the marriage was on May 13th.  Some thing is wrong with her math! Does Evelyn Zumaya catch this error or make a foot note about it? NO.

Another error by Evelyn Zumaya is on page 53 footnote #100 which Zumaya says they were married on the first day of the tour.  No!  Tour's first date was March 17 in Omaha NB, NOT Crown Point where they were married in Indiana.

On page 87 Footnote #173  Evelyn Zumaya turns on the original author in a vicious way.  She says her comments are a "cruel invention of the author" Ouch.  The reason?  The original authors negative comments about Natacha Rambova. Oh, whats this?  Zumaya is selling a book about Rambova? Thus the snarky footnote #173.  Got it.

On page 127 the author says he was wearing slave bracelet in death and will take it to the grave.  Evelyn Zumaya makes NO effort to dispute this.   Maybe she doesn't know?

Page 131  The author says George Ullman and Charlie Chaplin were pall bearers at the Saint Malachy funeral. Charlie Chaplin was a pall bearer at the West Coast funeral held at the Church of the Good Shepherd.  Ullman was never a pall bearer. Did Evelyn Zumaya even notice this error?  There is no 'footnote' in the book, so I have to believe this went over her head. SAD.

Page 133    Alberto did not pay for burial spot.  B of A (as administrators) paid $800 on March 24, 1933. In the book it says it says this happened in 1936.  This is untrue. Evelyn Zumaya once again shows her lack of facts.

Page 179  Aspiration Statue  unveiling  The author says that Pola was there; "Pola Negri was asked to honor the event with her presence in a intimate ceremony which included about 10 photographers.  Pola came running, delighted to pose while she was removing the drape which covered the statue "

FACT:  it was actually Delores Del Rio who unveiled the Aspiration statue.  Not Pola.  In fact Pola was not even in the USA in 1930,  All of this was lost on Evelyn Zumaya.  She's scholarly?
Delores unveiling the Aspiration statue

Lets wrap up this mess with Frank Mennillo.   Author Jeanne De Recqueville mentions Mennillo ONCE.  Yet, due to footnotes by Evelyn Zymaya he is mentioned an astounding 13 times within the book!  In the index Mennillo is listed as being on pages 17, 19, 56, 109, 119-120.   The index is faulty - It doesn't mention Mennillo is also on pages 15, 121, 128

This book is a joke.   35% fictional dialogue and shows Recqueille is another yawn in the early bios of Rudy.  Who asked for this to be translated and reprinted?  There is nothing truthful nor any insight to be had.  They are charging $39 on Amazon.  Do you think this is a fair price?

Affairs Valentino Critique - False Quote

In the 2011 edition of Affairs Valentino the author Evelyn Zumaya tells of S. George Ullman standing on the deck with Rudolph Valentino in New York as they waved good bye to his brother Alberto, who had just boarded the ship to return to Italy.  Then Valentino turns to Ullman and says the below quote.  The author Evelyn Zumaya claimed this direct quote came from the (then) un-published 1975 Ullman manuscript.

Source: Photo of Affairs Valentino page 422

Fast forward three years.  In 2014 the same author, Evelyn Zumaya published the 1975 S. George Ullman memoir from which she had, in Affairs Valentino stated as her source for the above "quote"

Source: Photo of S. George Ullman memoir page 70

Apparently the "quote" in Affairs Valentino was altered with damaging fake words being put by the author Evelyn Zumaya into the deceased Mr. Ullmans mouth.

Forewarning: (NO pun intended)   It's coming.... my book critique review of "Valentino Fugitive"  The book arrived today (Satu...
